I listened and I heard music in a word (The Who)

To quote the divine Grace Slick (at Woodstock): It's a new dawn! Happy new year friends!

He plays by intuition (The Who)

I loafe and invite my Soul; I lean and loafe at my ease, observing a spear of summer grass  is from Walt Whitman's extraordinary  Leaves Of Grass. Uncle Walt knew this well: A lot can come from letting go and really seeing.

Let's stop all the fight (John Lennon)

Virtue Mine Honour (Macleans College motto)

The only record of virtue is virtue; the only way to have a friend is to be one (Ralph Waldo Emerson)

It's decreed, the people rule (Patti Smith)

The great Marshall McLuhan again!

It's now or never, we've no time to lose (Yoko Ono)

From time to time, wrongly attributed to John  - this aphorism from Yoko first appeared in Grapefruit - her wonderful book of aphorisms, poems, instructions and what have you; she later used the quote in her song Now Or Never from the superb Apple Records album - Approximately Infinite Universe .

Julius Caesar and the Roman Empire couldn't conquer the blue sky (Crowded House)

In the same spirit as the Emerson quote comes this piece of deep thinking from the Finns: Everywhere you go, you always take the weather with you.

There's a small boat made of china going nowhere on the mantelpiece (Crowded House)

Though we travel the world over to find the beautiful, we must carry it with us or we find it not - Ralph Waldo Emerson. I have often placed this quote on my bulletin board at home or an office. It's closely aligned to the earlier Buckaroo Banzai idea - wherever you go - there you are, and the next post - coming soon...

May the spirit's guide be the one I navigate tonight (Jonathan Wilson)

To know that we know what we know, and that we do not know what we do not know, that is true knowledge.   Confucius There are a few versions of this quote kicking about on the interweb but I love this one. I first discovered it in Henry David Thoreau's Walden and therefore I'm sticking with it!

I won't say anything because no one ever listens to me anyway. I might as well be a Leonard Cohen record (Neil Pye)

If the world was an orange, it would be like much too small, y'know? (Neil from The Young Ones)

The movie, radio, and television: classroom without walls (Marshall McLuhan)

The movie, radio, and television: classroom without walls  (Marshall McLuhan) He came up with some memorable phrases about the global village and the medium being the message but this one is my favourite; writing when the computer age was yet to bloom, he understood how the power of mass media had the ability to transform education. We're still playing intellectual catch up with this amazing man and his thoughts!

Soft driven, slow and mad like some new language (Jim Morrison)
